Gov. Gregoire Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

For Immediate Release: January 23, 2008

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Board of Occupational Therapy Practice
Jonathan D. Harrison
of Yakima has been appointed to a term effective January 9, 2008, ending December 31, 2010. Harrison is currently in private practice as an Occupational Therapist and was previously employed by Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center.

The board administers, coordinates and enforces the statutes relating to occupational therapists.

Board of Pharmacy
Rebecca Hille
of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective January 20, 2009, ending January 19, 2012. Hille was previously employed as the Eastern Washington Representative for Governor Gary Locke. She worked as a loan officer for First Security Bank, Washington Mutual Bank and Phoenix Mortgage and Investments. Hille also is a Certified Instructor for the Washington State Housing Finance Commission (WSHFC).

The board establishes policy for the practice of pharmacy, including licensing, disciplinary hearings and enforcement of laws pertaining to legal drugs; and licenses the manufacture and sale of poisons.

Commute Trip Reduction Board
Elizabeth Warman
of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective January 18, 2008, ending June 25, 2010. Warman is a manager of government relations with the Boeing Company. She serves as co-chair of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee, a board member of the Tacoma Pierce Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Puget Sound Regional Council, Transportation Policy Board.

The board establishes guidelines for commute trip reduction plans.

Developmental Disabilities Endowment Governing Board
George Walker
of Shoreline has been reappointed to a term effective March 16, 2008 ending March 15, 2012. Walker retired as regional vice president of the former Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company and serves as chair of the Developmental Disabilities Council. He is affiliated with several other organizations such as the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition, Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Metropolitan YMCA Board-King County, Resource Center for the Handicapped, Forward Washington and Washington Initiative for Supported Employment.

The board is responsible for designing and administering the developmental disabilities endowment.

Early Learning Advisory Council
Maria Vera
of Burbank has been appointed to a term effective January 17, 2008, ending June 30, 2009. Vera is an early learning consultant/trainer and former director of Family Support and Educational Services for Catholic Family and Child Services in Pasco. She also served on the Washington Learns Early Learning Council form 2005-2006.

The council was established to advise the Department of Early Learning on statewide early learning community needs and progress

Grays Harbor Boundary Review Board
Anthony Airhart
of Aberdeen has been appointed to a term effective January 17, 2008, ending January 31, 2009. Airhart was employed for 31 years with Weyerhaeuser, with Cosmopolis Pulp in maintenance and safety and as a peer outreach counselor for displaced mill workers at WorkSource Grays Harbor.

Timothy Shute of Elma has been appointed to a term effective January 17, 2008, ending January 31, 2011. Shute is commercial loan officer with Silverton Bank. He served on the Aberdeen City Council and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity of Gray harbor, United Way and Rebuilding Together Grays Harbor.

The board has jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporations, disincorporations, and creation or annexation of certain special districts. The board also have jurisdiction over extensions of sewer and water services outside the city or district.

Public Employee�s Benefits Board
Dr. Penny Palmer
of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective January 10, 2008, ending October 1, 2009. Palmer resides in Spokane, is employed by Sacred Heart Medical Center and practices internal medicine, emergency room medicine, currently practicing psychiatry.

Robert Porterfield of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effect January 10, 2008, ending October 1, 2009. Porterfield retired from state service in 1999 after serving as an economist for several agencies including the Department of Social and Health Services, Employment Security and the Department of Licensing. He is state committeeman for the 37th district Democrats and with the Senior Caucus for Group Health.

Margaret Stanley of Seattle has been reappointed to a term effective January 10, 2008, ending October 1, 2009. Stanley is the executive director for Puget Sound Health Alliance. Before joining Alliance, she worked with Regence BlueShield of Washington as executive director of Regence Care and vice president of Public Policy.

Yvonne Tate of Bellevue has been reappointed to a term effective January 10, 2008, ending October 1, 2009. Tate is the City of Bellevue coordinator for the Americans with Disabilities Act. Previously she was the director of human resources for the City of Bellevue. She is the former chair for the Bellevue Arts Commission and is a member of the United Way East Community Council.

Lee Ann Prelipp of Federal Way has been reappointed to a term effective January 10, 2008, ending October 1, 2009. Prelipp is retired after teaching for 27 years in the Federal Way School District. She formerly served as the president and vice president of the Washington Education Association and was a member of the Washington State Investment Board. Currently Prelipp serves on the Harborview Medical Center Board of Trustees and is a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Society for Women Educators.

The board designs and approves insurance benefit plans for state employees and retirees, the higher education system, political subdivisions and all employees of school districts.

Public Stadium Authority
Jake Jundt
of Yakima has been reappointed to a term effective January 7, 2008, ending July 15, 2011. Jundt was founder and co-owner of Tri-Ply Construction before recently retiring. He is actively involved in the community, serving on several boards including the Yakima Chamber of Commerce executive committee; and on the boards of the Central Washington State Fair Association, Diocese of Yakima Housing Services, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Yakima, and LaSalle High School in Yakima. Jundt was also a member of the finance task force for the sports stadium and exhibition center proposal.

The authority will represent the public's interest in owning Qwest Field & Event Center and oversee First & Goal Inc.'s operation of the facility for the benefit of all Washington state citizens.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizens Advisory Board
Ron Jones
of Gig Harbor has been appointed to a term effective January 17, 2008, ending at the Governor�s pleasure. Jones was the principal for Ron Jones Investigations before retiring. He is a Viet Nam veteran having served with the United States Air Force. Jones is also actively involved with the Gig Harbor/Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce.

The board serves in an advisory capacity to the commission on all matters related to the imposition of tolls.

Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission
Darrell A. Owens
of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective January 9, 2008, and will continue until June 30, 2009. Owens is clinical assistant professor/founder and director, Palliative Care Consult Service at University of Washington Harborview Medical Center. He has 15+ years experience in palliative and hospice care, including direct patient care and is Associate Editor for the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing.

The board regulates the competency and quality of nursing care professionals by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline.
