Gov. Gregoire announces appointments to Committee on Disability Issues and Employment

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of the following people to the Governor�s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment. Their appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2008, and continue through Dec. 31, 2010.

Scott Bellman of Seattle, who is program coordinator, DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology) for the University of Washington.

Michael Hatzenbeler of Seattle. He is president and chief executive officer for PROVAIL. He is Directors of Disability Organizations Leadership Team co-chair, Kiwanis Club of North Central Seattle vice president and Burke-Gilman Public Development Authority chair. He was on the Association of Fundraising Professionals Washington Chapter board of directors.

Kevin Meirose of Tacoma, who is a University of Washington program assistant. He is a Krista Foundation member and has worked with the developmentally disabled with Jesuit Volunteer Corps.

Nancy San Carlos of Issaquah, who is retired and a member of the Legislative Core Group for the Governor�s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment member. She is SHIP Program (Self-Esteem for the Handicapped Inside Prisons) founder/volunteer director, Eastside Home Association trustee and tenants� representative and a Lupus Foundation of America Northwest Chapter member.

Heather Simmons of Tacoma, who is a CARES of Washington supported employment specialist and was a transition special education teacher. She is a member of International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, California Teachers Association and Washington Teachers Association. Simmons is a Tacoma Area Coalition of Individuals with Disabilities volunteer and facilitator and a Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society volunteer.

Jeffrey Allen Trelka of Algona, who is director and independent education analyst for Spectrum Strategies, LLC. He is a member of American Academy of Special Education Professionals and American Society for Training and Development. Trelka volunteers for the Washington State Department of Health, reviewing oral health fact sheets. He was a volunteer parent adviser to the Washington State Forum on Oral Health Access and Children with Special Health Care Needs for the Department of Health.

David McCoy of Port Angeles, who is general manager of Paratransit Services and is manager of Certified Community Transit. He is a member of American Radio Relay League, Clallam County Amateur Radio Emergency Service Community Advocates for Rural Elders (CARE) Partnership and Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization. McCoy is a State of Washington emergency worker and a Clallam County Emergency Management Support Agency volunteer.

Peter Ripley of Port Angeles, who is self-employed and vice chair of the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board of Clallam County. He is Housing Authority of Clallam County chair and resident adviser and Terraces Resident Council Tenant Association president.

Shawnie McAdams of Clinton, who is director of vocational services for New Leaf Inc. He is a community advocate for people with disabilities, Coupeville High School tutor, and he volunteers for Swinomish fund raisers, elementary and middle school field trips, and natural resource clean-up projects.

Darlene (Sunnie) Smith Castle Rock, who is a disability resource advocate for Disability Resources of Southwest Washington. She is State Accessible Voting Committee secretary, Cowlitz County auditor for Committee on Voting Accessibility, on the Para Transit Transportation Disability Advisory Committee and a Lower Columbia Organization on Disability member. Smith volunteers for the Cowlitz County Fair as food preservation department superintendent and is a master food preserver with Cowlitz County WSU Extension. She volunteers with Americorps, Leadercorps and Cowlitz County Abate.

Julie Peddy of Everett, who is program manager and administrative officer for DOC/NOAA/NMFS/Northwest Fisheries Science Center. She is vice president of Employer and Educational Partnerships, and is a member of Snohomish County Ethics Commission, Hearthstone Homeowners Association, Northwest Career Educators and Employers Association, and Western Washington University Career Service Center Advisory Committee.

Catherine Warms of Seattle, who is a registered nurse and nurse practitioner and a certified family nurse practitioner and rehabilitation registered nurse. She is research assistant professor for the University of Washington School of Nursing, Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems. Warms is a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Puget Sound Chapter, American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, Washington State Nurses Association/King County Nurses Association, and Association of Spinal Cord Injury Nurses.

Kevin Lakey of Kennewick, who is a scientist for Battelle Memorial Institute/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He has been a volunteer for Acting on AIDS and was Seattle Pacific Reachout International Member Care coordinator, Seattle Pacific University transfer student co-coordinator and is financial secretary, production lighting technician and board member for Cathedral of Joy.

Veronica (Nicki) Thomas of Cathlamet, who is a retired registered nurse. She is a member of Wahkiakum County Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board, Timberlands Regional Support Network Advisory Board and Southwest Washington Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board.

Roxanna Jensen of Wenatchee, who is an I-learning adviser for Insight School of Washington. She is Clallam County Division of Disabilities Advisory Council vice chair, and a member of People First of Washington and ARC of Olympic Peninsula.

Brenda Carlstrom of Hoquiam. She is Washington State University Learning Center-Grays Harbor/Pacific acting coordinator and academic media services site operator/technical assistant. She is Columbia Legal Services vice president, Coastal Community Action Program co-chair and a Home Care Quality Authority member.

Barbara Sainitzer of Olympia. She is a registered nurse and is occupational nurse consultant for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. She is a member and past president of the Washington State Association of Occupational Health Nurses.

Philip Wade of Bremerton, who is an attorney and owner of PBW Law Firm PLLC and holds a Certified Professional Guardian certification. He is a member of Washington State Bar Association and Washington State Trial Lawyers Association and volunteers with community legal services agencies.
