Governor Gregoire Announces Recipients of Historic Preservation Grants

For Immediate Release: July 26, 2007

OLYMPIA Governor Chris Gregoire today announced the recipients of over $100,000 in grants to support local historic preservation programs. The Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation will award the 11 grants to local governments to assist in their efforts to protect important historic properties and resources for future generations.

Historic preservation programs bring together local government and the community to protect and preserve our states irreplaceable historic and cultural resources, said Governor Gregoire. These grants support their efforts to tell the story of Washingtons past for generations to come.

The grants will aid preservation efforts by providing support to identify historic properties, place historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places and create historic preservation plans for these areas.
