For Immediate Release: June 12, 2007
Gov. Gregoire congratulates Mike as he finishes his tour of Washingtons 39 counties, reading The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs to elementary students across the state
OLYMPIA Governor Chris Gregoire today congratulated First Gentleman Mike Gregoire on reaching his goal of visiting elementary school students in each of Washingtons 39 counties. Sharing the joy of reading with students across the state, First Mike visited classrooms to read Jon Scieszkas The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs and answer questions about Trooper - the family dog, life in the Executive Mansion and what it is like to be married to the Governor.
I am so proud of the message we are taking to students across Washington about the importance of reading. He has also helped me thank the many dedicated school and library professionals who are making a difference in the lives of children and families every day, said Governor Gregoire.
Ive enjoyed the opportunity to visit schools and public libraries and share a book with the students," said Mike Gregoire. We talk about the importance of reading at least 20 minutes every day to strengthen their skills and to establish a habit of lifelong learning and enjoyment.
We have a great time and the students get a chance to hear the wolf's side of the well-known tale of the three little pigs. After the story, students have an opportunity to ask questions. I am so impressed with the questions that students ask about our government and issues of the day. They are also very curious about life in the mansion and our dog, Trooper.
First Mike completed his 39-county tour in Longview and Battle Ground. He plans to continue his literacy outreach during the 2007-2008 school year.
