Governor Gregoire Responds to House Transportation Budget Proposal

OLYMPIA � Governor Chris Gregoire today released the following statement on the transportation budget proposal released by Representative Judy Clibborn, chair of the state House Transportation Committee:

�The House transportation budget funds critical projects throughout the state, begins work on the Alaskan Way viaduct and the 520 bridge, invests in enhanced driver�s licenses to facilitate border crossings and looks for ways to move traffic more quickly.

�There are some differences between our budget proposals, but I�m sure that we can all come to an agreement on a transportation plan that will move people and products safely and efficiently.�

Governor Gregoire�s top priority is safety and her balanced budget proposal invests in safety projects first. Governor Gregoire has repeatedly emphasized safety, capacity and fiscal responsibility in discussing transportation projects.
