Gov. Christine Gregoire announces appointments to boards and commissions

Gov. Christine Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Affordable Housing Advisory Board
Paul Purcell of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective April 8, 2005 ending in January 26, 2009. Purcell has worked in affordable housing for 22 years. He is the President of Beacon Development Group, a company providing development, consulting, and planning services for non-profit and church-based affordable housing. Before starting Beacon Development Group, he worked for 17 years as the head of Housing Development for Catholic Community Services and the Archdiocesan Housing Authority. The Affordable Housing Advisory Board serves as principal advisory body to the Department of Community Trade and Economic Development on housing and housing-related issues.

Board of Trustees, Bates Technical College
Carolyn Lake of Tacoma was reappointed to term effective April 7, 2005 and ending September 30, 2007. Lake is an attorney with The Goodstein Law Group. Previously she served as Special Deputy Prosecutor for King County and is a member of the District and Municipal Court Judges Association, as well as several other organizations. Lake is a graduate of the U. P.S Law School and the University of Washington. She replaces Lyle Quasim. Bates Technical College Board of Trustees is the governing board for one of the state's 30 community and technical college districts.

Lewis and Clark Trail Committee
Steven Lee of Clarkston has been appointed to a term effective April 8, 2005, ending at the Governor�s pleasure. Lee is an Accountant Principal with Washington State University and is a member of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation, serving as Treasurer in 2000 through 2003. The Committee advises and stimulates activities of federal, state and local agencies and individuals to promote public awareness of the route traveled by Lewis and Clark on their 1804-1806 expedition.

Pacific Marine Fisheries Commission
Senator Harriet Spanel of Bellingham and Representative Jim Buck of Joyce were reappointed to terms effective April 5, 2005, ending June 30, 2007. The commission advises the Department of Fisheries and the Governor on developments within the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council and state or national legislation, which affects Washington-based high seas fishing fleets.

Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE)
Representative Phyllis Kenney of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective April 5, 2005, ending June 9, 2007. Kenney is in her 5th term serving the House of Representatives. Her legislative priorities include improving K-12 and higher education, housing and economic development as well as safe and healthy communities. WICHE places students in professional schools of compact states and provides tuition assistance for out-of-state study.
