Statement from Governor Gregoire on Senate Passage of Rainy Day Fund

For Immediate Release: February 21, 2007

OLYMPIA � The Washington State Senate today passed Senate Bill 5311, creating a rainy day fund. Governor Gregoire requested the bill and issued the following statement on its passage:

�I am pleased that the Washington State Senate passed this proposal and it is moving another step closer to becoming law. A constitutionally protected savings account is a smart investment in the future of Washington.

�The Washington rainy day fund will work just like your family savings account. We will build it up with automatic deposits when times are good and we can feel secure knowing that there is extra money available to meet basic needs if times suddenly turn bad or if a disaster strikes.�
