Governor Gregoire Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

Citizens appointed from Bellevue, Bellingham, Bonney Lake, Bothell, Coupeville, East Wenatchee, Everson, Gig Harbor, Lacey, Mercer Island, Mount Vernon, Olympia, Puyallup, Seattle, Sequim and Tacoma

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Bellingham Technical College Board of Trustees
Jeffrey Kochman of Bellingham has been appointed to a term effective January 24, 2007, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Kochman is the president of Talbot Real Estate, L.L.C. � The Barkley Company. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a board member for the Workforce Development Council.

The Board is the governing board for the technical college.

Cascadia Community College Board of Trustees
Kirstin Haugen of Bothell has been appointed to a term effective January 20, 2007, ending September 30, 2010. Ms. Haugen is an account executive with Mercury, L.L.C., where she manages a national public affairs campaign for AT&T. She is a board member for the North Shore Performing Arts Center Foundation.

The Board is the governing board for the community college.

Clallam County Boundary Review Board
Thomas Montgomery of Sequim has been reappointed to a term effective February 1, 2007, ending January 31, 2011. Mr. Montgomery is a realtor with the offices of John L. Scott in Sequim. He is on the City of Sequim�s Citizens Park Advisory Board, the board of the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society and the board of the North Olympic Land Trust.

The Board has jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporations, disincorporations and the creation or annexation of certain special districts. They also have jurisdiction over extensions of sewer and water services outside the city or district.

Douglas County Boundary Review Board
John Brangwin of East Wenatchee has been reappointed to a term effective February 1, 2007, ending January 31, 2011. Mr. Brangwin is a partner with the law firm Woods & Brangwin, PLLC. He is a member of the Kiwanis club.

The Board has jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporations, disincorporations and the creation or annexation of certain special districts. They also have jurisdiction over extensions of sewer and water services outside the city or district.

Higher Education Coordinating Board
Earl Hale of Lacey has been appointed to a term effective February 6, 2007, ending June 30, 2008. Mr. Hale is a consultant for the Ford Foundation and is the former Executive Director of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. He serves on the boards of the Olympia YMCA and Earth Share Washington.

The Board studies, plans and coordinates higher education among various institutions and agencies within the state.

Board of Pharmacy
Vandana Slatter, PharmD, MPA of Bellevue has been appointed to a term beginning January 20, 2007, ending January 19, 2011. Dr. Slatter is a licensed pharmacist in Washington and a board member for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. She is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America and a past board member for the Children's Institute for Learning Differences, a school serving children with special needs.

The Board establishes policy for the practice of pharmacy; including licensing, disciplinary hearings and enforcement of laws pertaining to legal drugs; and licenses the manufacture and sale of poisons.

Professional Educators Standards Board
Grant Pelesky of Puyallup has been reappointed to a term effective January 24, 2007, ending June 30, 2009. Mr. Pelesky is a teacher at Fruitland Elementary in the Puyallup School District. He is a former city council member and former state representative.

The Board is responsible for state policies and requirements for the preparation, certification, assignment and continuing education of certified education professionals.

Securities Advisory Committee
J. David Griswold of Tacoma has been reappointed to a term effective January 30, 2007, ending December 31, 2010. Mr. Griswold is the director of Global Regulatory Policy and associate general counsel for the Russell Investment Group. He is a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers district committee.

Mike Liles, Jr. of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective January 30, 2007, ending December 31, 2010. Mr. Liles is an equity shareholder with Karr Tuttle Campbell, P.S. and an attorney. He is a member of the securities law committees of the Washington and Seattle King County Bar Associations and the President of the Securities Lawyer and Accountant Group.

The Committee advises the Director of the Department of Financial Institutions on matters relating to securities; examines and licenses securities broker, dealers, salespeople and investment advisors.

Skagit County Boundary Review Board
Alec McDougall of Mount Vernon has been reappointed to a term effective February 1, 2007, ending January 31, 2011. Mr. McDougall is an adjunct math instructor with Skagit Valley Community College. He is a member of the National Education Association and the Washington Education Association and is the volunteer treasurer for Skagit Habitat for Humanity.

Skagit Valley Community College Board of Trustees
Gordon (Don) Piercy of Coupeville has been appointed to a term effective January 15, 2007, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Piercy is an adjunct instructor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Oak Harbor. He is a mentor at the University of Puget Sound School of Business, a member of the Whidbey General Hospital Foundation and the Lions Club.

Board of Small Business Export Finance Assistance Center
Paul Calderon of Mercer Island has been reappointed to a term effective January 30, 2007, ending October 1, 2010. Mr. Calderon is the Chair and Managing Director of Sun Microsystems Global Financial Services. He volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club in Mercer Island.

Steven Drury of Tacoma has been appointed to a term effective January 30, 2007, ending October 1, 2010. Mr. Drury is professional chemical engineer and the Director of Applications Engineering for Sharpe Mixers. He is on the Board of Managers of the Greater Seattle YMCA Camping Services.

The Board is a non-profit corporation that assists small and medium-sized businesses with the financing of export transactions and provides information about export opportunities and financing alternatives.

Snohomish County Boundary Review Board
Beth Salaguinto of Bothell has been reappointed to a term effective February 1, 2007, ending January 31, 2011. Ms. Salaguinto is the Human Resources Manager for Smiths Aerospace. She is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management.

The Board has jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporations, disincorporations and the creation or annexation of certain special districts. They also have jurisdiction over extensions of sewer and water services outside the city or district.

State Building Code Council
Jon Napier of Bonney Lake has been appointed to a term effective January 6, 2007, ending January 5, 2010. Mr. Napier is a Division Chief and Fire Marshall for the City of Kent Fire Department. He is a member of the International Code Council and is the State Codes Director for the Washington State Association of Fire Marshalls.

The Council recommends revisions and provides technical and general assistance to building officials regarding codes relating to uniform building, energy and barrier-free designs; adopts and amends building codes.

State Employee Combined Fund Drive
Mary Henley of Olympia has been reappointed to a term effective January 24, 2007, ending January 1, 2010. Ms. Henley is the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner of the Employment Security Department. She is the President of the Tumwater Education Foundation, on the board of directors for The Thurston County Food Bank and volunteers with the Tumwater United Music Society.

The Combined Fund Drive allows state employees to donate money for distribution to a variety of charitable organizations.

Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees
Don Dennis of Gig Harbor has been appointed to a term effective January 20, 2007, ending September 30, 2011. Mr. Dennis is retired from his position as Government Affairs Manager for CenturyTel. He volunteers with Paint Tacoma/Gig Harbor Peninsula.

The Board is the governing board for the community college.

Thurston County Boundary Review Board
Stephen Langer of Olympia has been reappointed to a term effective February 1, 2007, ending January 31, 2011. Dr. Langer is the Director of Northwest Brief Therapy Training Center and is a practicing psychologist. He volunteers with the Thurston County Critical Incident Debriefing Team, which debriefs paramedics, firefighters and law enforcement personnel in Thurston County.

Whatcom County Boundary Review Board
Marge Laidlaw of Everson has been reappointed to a term effective February 1, 2007, ending January 31, 2011. Ms. Laidlaw is a guardian ad litem and mediator. She is on the Whatcom Community College Foundation Board and the Meridian Schools Foundation Board. She served on the Whatcom City Council from 1990 - 1994.
