Governor Gregoire Appoints Chair of Liquor Control Board

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Lorraine Lee of Federal Way as chair of the Washington Liquor Control Board. The appointment is effective November 16, 2006.

�Lorraine Lee�s background as the Licensing Director at the board and her experience as an attorney and a policy analyst will make her a great leader for this agency. I am excited to have her join my executive cabinet,� said Governor Gregoire.

Ms. Lee is the Director of Licensing and Regulation at the Washington State Liquor Control Board. She was the Assistant Director of the Washington Lottery and an Executive Policy Advisor for governors Gary Locke and Mike Lowry.

Ms. Lee was the staff attorney for the Washington Court of Appeals, division II, and for the Washington Appellate Defender Association. She was a lawyer for the United States Army, serving in the rank of Captain in Hawaii, Korea and Washington, D.C.

Ms. Lee was a member of the Washington Commission on Judicial Conduct, the King County chapter of Washington Women Lawyers, the Washington Minority and Justice Commission and was a volunteer lawyer for the International District Legal Clinic in Seattle. She was a judge pro tem in the Kirkland and Federal Way municipal courts and in King County District Court.

Governor Gregoire also announced the appointment of Ruthann Kurose of Mercer Island to the Liquor Control Board. The appointment is effective January 16, 2007.

�Ruthann Kurose�s longtime involvement in the community and her work on public affairs across Washington make her a great addition to the board,� said Governor Gregoire. �I hope this board will work with all segments of the industry and continue to recognize the economic value of the Washington wine industry.�

Ms. Kurose is a public affairs project consultant. She has worked as the city of Tacoma�s International Affairs Manager and the city of Seattle�s International Trade and Tourism Coordinator. She worked for U.S. Representative Mike Lowry and with the U.S. Department of Education in Seattle.

Ms. Kurose is the chair for Bellevue Community College Board of Trustees, is on the KCTS Public Television Advisory Board, The Wing Luke Museum Capital Campaign Committee, the American Jewish Committee Board and the Seattle Asian Art Museum Advisory Committee.
