Gov. Gregoire Lowers Flags for Pearl Harbor Remembrance

For Immediate Release: December 5, 2005

Governor says Wednesday is a day to honor our greatest generation

OLYMPIA -- Gov. Chris Gregoire today ordered flags at all Washington State agency facilities lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, Dec. 7, to honor all of those who died at Pearl Harbor on that date in 1941.

Sixty-four years later, we still feel the loss of those brave men and women who died at Pearl Harbor. They were our greatest generation. On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day we honor their service to our country and the ideals for which they gave their lives.

The governor urged school districts, other government entities, businesses and citizens to join in this solemn occasion. Flags are to remain lowered until sunset on Wednesday. Flags lit throughout the night should remain lowered until sunrise on Thursday.
