For Immediate Release: June 14, 2011

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire today issued the following statement on the announcement from Boeing that the company intends to increase the production rate for its Next-Generation 737 to 42 airplanes per month by 2014:

Todays announcement is good news for Boeing, its employees and for all of Washington state. With 84,000 aerospace workers statewide todays announcement further shows that we are the premier location for aerospace. As Boeing already knows, Washington states highly skilled workforce, its friendly business environment and unmatched quality of life makes our area one where aerospace companies choose to locate and expand.

I am proud that the 737 calls Washington state home, and commend Boeing for its tremendous success. Manufactured in Washington state, the 737 has played a critical role in our state history, providing good-paying jobs to thousands of Washingtonians. I have pledged to the company that I am committed to doing all I can to ensure the Boeing 737 remains an important part of our states future. Our aerospace industry, our families and our economic success depend on it.
