Gov. Gregoires statement on anniversary of Sept. 11

For Immediate Release: September 11, 2009

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire today issued the following statement on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks:

"Today we honor all who died or were injured in the September 11 attacks on our nation eight years ago.

We will never forget the tragedy of that day, but we will never let the sadness of our loss diminish our resolve to stand together.

We will remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other first responders who were killed trying to save others, and the men and women in uniform who have given their lives in service to our country.

And we, too, will work to help our friends, our families, our neighbors and those in need.

Today is our National Day of Service and Remembrance.

I am asking all Washingtonians to serve in whatever way they can. Donate food. Give your time. Make your community better.

When we serve together, we honor those we have lost. And we make ourselves part of our proud history of challenges faced, and challenges overcome."
