Gov. Gregoire announces boards and commissions appointments

OLYMPIA � Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 1 (Peninsula College):

Erik Rohrer of Forks has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Rohrer is a Clallam County judge. He is a board member for the Olympia Office of Civil Legal Aid and the Pacific Northwest Trail Association of Burlington.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 2 (Grays Harbor College):

Fawn Sharp-Malvini of Ocean Shores has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Sharp-Malvini is president of the Quinault Indian Nation. She is co-chair of the National Congress of American Indians, Sovereignty Protection Initiative.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 4 (Skagit Valley College):

Debra Lisser of Mount Vernon has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Lisser works at Lisser & Associates, PLLC, a land surveying business. She is the president-elect of the Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges and a former Conway School Board member.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 6 (Seattle Community Colleges):

Constance Rice of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Rice is the managing director of prevention and family support with Casey Family Programs.. Rice is the co�campaign chair for YouthCare, a program dedicated to helping homeless youth find shelter and employment. She is the former senior vice chancellor for the Seattle Community College District and former interim president of North Seattle Community College.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 7 (Shoreline Community College):

Gidget Terpstra of Shoreline has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Terpstra is a family advocate for the Shoreline School District. She is a member of the North Urban Human Services Alliance and the Shoreline Community Resource Team.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 9 (Highline Community College):

Dan Altmayer of Federal Way has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Altmayer is a financial advisor at Edward Jones Investments. He is a member of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Highline Community College Board of Directors and Communities in Schools Foundation advisory board.

Barbara Reid of Federal Way has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2010. Reid is retired from The Boeing Company. She is the vice president and parade chair of Federal Way Festival Days, and a member of the Federal Way Symphony Board of Directors and the Federal Way Parks and Recreation Commission.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 11 (Pierce College):

Marc Gaspard of Puyallup has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Gaspard is president of the Washington Financial League and administrative director of the Washington Mortgage Lenders Association. A former state senator, he is a member of the board of directors for Good Samaritan Hospital and the Association for the Developmentally Disabled.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 12 (Centralia College):

Joanne Schwartz of Chehalis has been appointed to term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Schwartz is an economic development administrator for the city of Chehalis. She is a member of the Lewis County Economic Development Council, Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, Providence Centralia Hospital Community Board, Chehalis Kiwanis and Centralia College Fund Board.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 14 (Clark College):

Jack Burkman of Vancouver has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Burkman is retired after 28 years as a Hewlett Packard manager. He serves on the YWCA Clark County Board and the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Board.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 15 (Wenatchee Valley College):

Philip Rasmussen of Wenatchee has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Rasmussen is retired after a 36-year engineering career at Alcoa, Inc. He is a member of the Wenatchee Valley Rotary Club and the Wenatchee Valley College Foundation.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 17 (Spokane and Spokane Falls Community Colleges):

Carol Landa-McVicker of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Landa-McVicker is a human resource analyst for Spokane County Human Resources. She is a member of the Hispanic Business and Professional Association.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 18 (Big Bend Community College):

Mike Wren of Soap Lake has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 19, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2012. Wren is the port manager of Grant County Port District No. 9. He is a member of the Grant County Economic Development Council Board of Directors and the Ephrata Chamber of Commerce.

Angela Pixton of Warden has been appointed to a term effective Sept. 19, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2010. Pixton is a registered nurse at the Hearthstone Inn in Moses Lake. She is a member of the State of Washington Potato Commission and co-chair of the Public Industry and Education Committee.

Katherine Kenison of Moses Lake has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Kenison is an attorney in private practice. She is a member of the Legislative Steering Committee and Student Achievement Task Force at Big Bend Community College. Kenison is also a member of the Student Achievement Task Force Committee for Washington State Community and Technical Colleges.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 19 ( Columbia Basin College):

Enriqueta Mayuga of Pasco has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2008. Mayuga is a physician in private practice. Mayuga is involved with numerous organizations, including the Tri-Cities Opportunities Industrialization Center�s Board of Directors, Benton-Franklin Medical Society and Filipino-American Association of the Tri-Cities Board of Trustees.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 21 (Whatcom Community College):

Timothy Douglas of Bellingham has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Douglas was mayor of the city of Bellingham and a Peace Corps director. He has been a board member for organizations such as Kulshan Community Land Trust and Whatcom Coalition for Healthy Communities.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 23 (Edmonds Community College):

Mauri Moore of Edmonds has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Moore has 30 years of experience in broadcast news, including as an NBC producer and bureau chief. She served as an Edmonds City councilmember and on the board for the Public Education Foundation.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 24 (South Puget Sound Community College):

Alberta Clarkson of Lacey has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Clarkson is retired with more than 25 years of experience in managing adult education and training programs. She has been involved with organizations such as the Olympia Kiwanis Ladies, Ladies of Elks Olympia Lodge, Olympia Branch of the Tacoma Urban League and Center for Career Alternatives Board.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 25 (Bellingham):

Sonia Arevalo-Hayes of Ferndale has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Arevalo-Hayes is the co-owner of TC Trading Company. She is a member of the Marine Hotel Association, Whatcom Hispanic Organization and Washington Latino Business Association.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 28 (Bates):

Stanley Rumbaugh of Browns Point has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Rumbaugh is an attorney at Rumbaugh, Rideout & Barnett. He is a member of the Tacoma Housing Authority, National Association of Housing and Rehabilitation Officials, and the Workers� Compensation Section Committee.

Board of Trustees, Technical College District No. 29 (Clover Park):

Mary Moss of Lakewood has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Moss is the community relations manager at Harborstone Credit Union. She has been a member of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, Tacoma Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, Thurston County Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs Committee, Pierce College Workforce Development Advisory Committee, Clover Park Foundation Executive Board and McChord Chapter Air Force Association Board.

Board of Trustees, Community College District No. 30 (Cascadia Community College):

Roy Wilkinson of Bothell has been reappointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2013. Wilkinson is a Boeing Machinist union member. He serves as an active member of the International Association of Machinists District 751-E, and as a delegate to the King County and Washington State Labor Councils.

Board of Trustees, The Evergreen State College:

Carver Gayton of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective Oct. 1, 2008, ending Sept. 30, 2014. Gayton recently retired as the executive director of the Northwest African American Museum. He is a former commissioner of the Washington State Employment Security Department, and former member of the Seattle Community Colleges Board of Trustees. He serves on several community boards, including the Art Institute of Seattle and the Haas Foundation Board of Directors.
