Introduction:
These records include both index and images to Declarations of Intention and Petitions for Naturalization filled at the Spokane County Superior Court between 1879 and 1909, and three months in 1912. There is a gap from 1890 to 1906.

The Washington Territorial Legislature created Spokane County on January 29, 1858 from part of Walla Walla County. Five years later it was voted out of existence by the Territorial Legislature and merged into Stevens County. In 1879 it was recreated and named after the Native American word, Spokane, which means “Child of the Sun.” It is located in the northeastern part of the state and is bounded by Idaho on the east.
