Governor Gary Locke’s Remarks
Chinese Information and Service Center Dinner
September 21, 2002

I am delighted to be here tonight to support the Chinese Information and Service Center. Congratulations on your 30th anniversary!

Think about how much things have changed since 1972, the year of your inception: Nixon had just been elected to his second term as president, the Super Sonics were the only professional sports team in Seattle, and I was just beginning law school. Now, in 2002, we are on our second President Bush, the Mariners and Seahawks have joined the Sonics, and law school seems easy compared to serving as Governor!

But what hasn’t changed is the need for the important services provided by the Chinese Information and Service Center. For the past 30 years, you have been the leading provider of linguistically and culturally appropriate social services to the Chinese immigrant community. I congratulate and thank you for all you have done for our community. I am proud to call myself one of your long-time supporters.
