Learn about the documentation of birth records in Washington and what information is found in a birth register or birth return by selecting the tab that says "About this Collection” here Mason County was created in 1854 and was originally part of Thurston County. It was first called Sawamish and later was changed to Mason after C. W. Mason, the secretary of the first territorial governor. The county is located in the southwestern end of the Hood Canal and the Puget Sound. All records are in English. These records are open for research.
