Capital Overview
The Pullman campus contains over 400 buildings on its nearly 2,000-acre campus and another 400 buildings off campus for a total of over 800 facilities that serve the Washington State University community. The oldest building was built in 1894 and there are new buildings currently under construction, but 76 percent of the existing facilities have been built since 1950 and one-third since 1970. Another 3,000 acres within Whitman County include an agronomy farm, animal sciences buildings, and pasture lands. An additional 4,500 acres are located throughout the state at agricultural research and extension centers and units, the Nursing Center in Spokane, and at campuses in Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver.
Washington State University's enrollment is expected to increase dramatically through 2005 - the greatest growth rate since 1970. This enrollment growth is coupled with an increasing need to modernize and renew existing space and ensure that facilities have the most appropriate technology, utilities and services available for teaching, research, and library use.
