Gov. Locke statement on Joint Strike Fighter decision

“I am deeply disappointed by the federal government’s decision today to award the Joint Strike Fighter contract to Lockheed Martin, but I am not disheartened. Boeing proposed a unique aircraft design that may have resulted in thousands of jobs for aerospace workers in the Pacific Northwest.

“Despite today’s announcement, I am encouraged by the House Appropriations Committee’s decision on Wednesday recommending Boeing 767 aircraft be modified for use by the Air Force for such missions as aerial refueling. Other opportunities are also being sought for additional airplane purchases. I want to assure Boeing employees that I will continue to work closely with Washington’s congressional delegation and the administration to ensure passage of this appropriation by the U.S. Congress.”
