Locke donates baseball autographed by Ichiro to Governors for America auction

OLYMPIA – Gov. Gary Locke today donated a baseball autographed by Seattle Mariners star Ichiro to the Governors for America auction in support of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Governors for America auction is part of eBay’s Auction for America, established at the request of Gov. George Pataki.

The goal of Auction for America is to raise $100 million in 100 days for the victims, families and communities affected by the horrific events of Sept. 11. All of the proceeds from the auction will go to the September 11th Fund.

All 50 governors were asked to donate items to the Governors for America program to help raise awareness for the auction.

“This is a another way to help the victims of the tragedies in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania,” said Locke. “The money raised by this auction will help ensure that people affected by these unspeakable attacks will get the support they need. I am proud that Washington state continues its generous contributions to the relief efforts.”

The Seattle Mariners donated the baseball at the governor’s request.

The autographed baseball is up for auction from the eBay web site under Auction for America.
