Locke presents state Quality Award

OLYMPIA — In recognition of outstanding commitment, leadership and performance excellence, Korry Electronics of Seattle and Motoring Services Auto Repair, Inc. of Richland were presented with the 2000 Washington State Quality Award by Gov. Gary Locke today in Olympia. In addition, the Washington State Health Care Facilities Authority was the recipient of the 2000 Certificate of Merit Award.

In a ceremony in the governor’s conference room, Locke congratulated the award recipients.

"It is my pleasure to commend both Korry Electronics and Motoring Services Auto Repair for setting the standards to which all Washington organizations can aspire,” Locke said. “By utilizing the Washington State Quality Award criteria as a standard for performance excellence, Korry and Motoring Services have shown a commitment to quality in their businesses for their employees and customers.”

“I am very pleased to present the Health Care Facilities Authority with the 2000 WSQA Certificate of Merit. The authority is the first state agency to receive this award,” Locke continued.

The Washington State Quality Award utilizes the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award as the primary standard for performance evaluations and improvements. Public and private sector organizations across the state are eligible for the award. Screening of applications for the award is conducted by a team of leading Washington state quality experts and involves a site examination for finalists.

The seven criteria addressed are:

  • leadership
  • strategic planning
  • customer and market focus
  • information and analysis
  • human resource focus
  • process management
  • business results

The Washington State Quality Award is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, which was established by the state Legislature in 1994.

The award is given to those organizations that have successfully implemented the performance criteria. Korry Electronics and Motoring Services were selected from six applicants representing both public and private organizations throughout Washington state.

Seattle based Korry Electronics, a division of Esterline Technologies, is the leading manufacturer of cockpit interfaces for the aerospace and defense market, including illuminated push button switches, panels, and electro-optical displays and controls.

Motoring Services Auto Repair, Inc. is a privately owned automotive repair facility that repairs most truck makes and models weighing up to one-ton. They serve the greater Tri-Cities area with facilities in Richland and Kennewick.

The Washington State Health Care Facilities Authority was established by the Legislature to assist non-profit health care providers to minimize the costs of construction and capital equipment projects by providing access to low cost tax-exempt interest rate bonds. The authority maintains one office in Olympia and has a staff of four employees.
