Locke names three to Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced the appointment of three members to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The nine-member commission determines seasons for recreational fishing and hunting in the state and oversees policies set by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. Three members each are from eastern and western Washington. Three other members are at-large representatives.

The three appointments are:

Kelly White of Kettle Falls. White owns and operates a family farm. Since 1994, White has served as real estate manager for The Property Store in Colville. White's term expires in January 2003.

Milton "Bud" Mercer of Prosser. Mercer owns and operates the 6,200-acre Mercer Ranches, Inc. He also has more than 20 years of experience in representing the interests of the agricultural community. Mercer's term expires in January 2001.

Mercer replaces Roger Contor, who moved to western Washington.
Will Roehl of Bellingham. He is a private attorney, co-owner of two additional businesses in Bellingham and served on the Whatcom County Council for 12 years. Roehl's term expires in January 2003.

Roehl replaces Mitch Johnson, who did not seek a second term.

Commission members receive $100 a day for commission business plus expenses.

The governor still has one at-large appointment to make to the commission.
