First family gets rabies shots following bat incident

OLYMPIA - Gov. Locke, his wife Mona, and daughter Emily are undergoing a series of rabies shots on the advice of state and Thurston County health officials.

Last week a bat was found flying around in the master bedroom of the mansion. The governor eventually trapped the bat in the ballroom, where it was later released through one of the ballroom doors.

No one in the family was bitten by the bat, but health officials say as a precaution it is necessary to get rabies shots whenever a person comes in contact with a bat.
