Locke announces selections for state boards and commissions

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke today announced selections for college boards of trustees and several boards and commissions, including Human Rights Commission, African American Affairs Commission, Board of Accountancy and Clemency and Pardons Board.

College Board of Trustees

The board of trustees is the governing body of the college.

Karen Lane, of Bellevue, was appointed to The Evergreen State College, Board of Trustees. Lane is the former senior vice president of external relations at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2004.

Betty Woods, of Edmonds, was appointed to the Western Washington University, Board of Trustees. She is the president and chief executive officer of Premera Blue Cross. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2004.

Dr. Erik W. Pearson, of Richland, was appointed to the Western Washington University, Board of Trustees. He is the director of strategic planning for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His term expires Sept. 30, 2001.

George Mohoric, D.D.S., of Centralia, was appointed to the Centralia College, Board of Trustees. He maintained a practice in general family dentistry for 40 years. His term expires Sept. 30, 2003.

Josie Wannarachue, of Kennewick, was appointed to the Columbia Basin College, Board of Trustees. She is a business owner in Kennewick. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2003.

Dennis A. Duncan, of Port Angeles, was appointed to the Peninsula College, Board of Trustees. He was a schoolteacher for 40 years. His term expires Sept. 30, 2003.

Appointed to an additional term on the Renton Technical College, Board of Trustees is A. M. "Andee" Jorgensen, of Renton, a manager at US West Communications. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2003.

Human Rights Commission

The commission works to eliminate and prevent discrimination in employment, housing, places of public accommodation, insurance and credit practices because of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, marital status, or physical, mental or sensory disability.

Juan Cotto, of Seattle, is an employment specialist for King County Department of Transportation. His term expires June 17, 1999.

African-American Affairs Commission

The commission works to improve the well-being of African-Americans by enabling them to participate fully in all fields of endeavor, obtain government services to meet their special needs, and ensure the benefits of equality are available to them.

Victoria R. Woodards, of Tacoma, is a councilmember assistant for the Pierce County Council. Her term expires Nov. 20, 1999.

Board of Accountancy

The board regulates public accounting through examinations, licensing, complaint investigation and continuing professional education.

James Caley, of Vancouver, is self-employed with his own accountancy firm. He is a member of the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.

Dante Lee Montoya, of Richland, is a manager of baseline and financial control at Lockheed Martin Hanford Company at the U.S. DOE Hanford site.

Both terms expire June 9, 2001.

Clemency and Pardons Board

The board receives petitions from individuals, organizations, and the Department of Corrections for review and commutation of sentences and pardoning of offenders.

Wendell DeBoer, of Bellevue, is a retired law enforcement officer. His term expires Sept. 25, 2000.

Appointed to an additional term on the board is Robert Winsor, of Seattle, a mediator and arbitrator at a local Seattle company. His term expires Sept. 25, 2002.

Commission on Pesticide Registration

The commission provides guidance to Washington State University's Food Safety and Environmental Quality Lab in the area of pesticide registrations for minor crops and minor uses and in regard to the availability of pesticides for emergency use.

R.L. Berger, of Olympia, is a landscape architect and former staff member of the Department of Transportation. His term expires Sept. 14, 2001.

Organized Crime Advisory Board

The board advises the governor on the activities of organized crime within the state.

Appointed to an additional term on the board is Walter Deierlein, Jr., of Mount Vernon, retired Skagit County Superior Court judge. His term expires July 15, 2000.
