Locke takes state leaders to Yakima for Capital for a Day

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke will take his executive cabinet agency managers with him to Yakima next week as he declares Yakima "Capital for a Day" July 15.

"Taking state government out to different parts of the state gives us a chance to personally listen and learn about what's really important to Washington citizens," Locke said. "Yakima-area residents will get a chance to talk with state managers personally about their concerns."

As in previous cities where the governor has hosted "Capital for a Day," Locke will host a town hall meeting and free picnic at the end of his visit. The event will be an opportunity for residents to ask questions or talk about issues with the governor and his cabinet directors. Those attending the picnic are asked to bring canned goods that will be donated to the Yakima Food Bank.
