Governor announces three student trustees

OLYMPIA -Gov. Gary Locke today appointed three additional student representatives to serve on the governing boards of their respective universities, a move that will provide an important perspective to the decisions made by state institutions of higher education.

Acting on a list of candidates nominated by student organizations, Locke today named new student regents for Eastern Washington University, The Evergreen State College, and Western Washington University.

Each student trustee will serve one year, as specified in legislation he signed into law earlier this year, with terms ending May 31, 1999. All will be full voting members on issues considered by their boards, except personnel matters.

From the list of three to five candidates recommended for each institution, Locke made the following appointments.

He currently serves as a council member of the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University and serves on the Academic Senate, Senate Rules, Undergraduate Affairs Council, Review and Proposal, and Board of Student Publications. He has been active in numerous other student organizations.
