Locke fills positions on boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments to several state councils and commissions.

"The unselfish time and oversight provided by these citizens is vital for the smooth and reliable delivery of many critical services to the state's residents," said Locke. "I'm pleased to make these appointments of such public-spirited people."

The appointments were made to the following boards and commissions:

* Washington Commission for the Humanities: Erasmo Gamboa, an associate professor of history at the University of Washington; Gail Tremblay, teacher of Native American Studies and Expressive Arts, The Evergreen State College.

* State Advisory Council on Homelessness: Members appointed to another term are Shirley Sutton, director of the Learning Center/Homeless Programs, Yakima School District No. 7; Howard Finck, president and chief executive officer, Friends of Youth, Redmond; Shirley Galloway, a self-employed consultant, Vancouver. New members are: Kevin McTeague, director, Council for the Homeless, Vancouver Housing Authority; Irene Fruzzetti, family resource specialist, Pierce County Community Services; Eric H. Bauer, executive director of the Christian Aid Center, Walla Walla.

* Governor's Industrial Safety & Health Advisory Board: James E. Schick, manager of safety and health, University Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Seattle; Barbara A. Gregg, safety director for Simpson Tacoma Kraft Co., Tacoma.

* Washington Council on Adult Education: Steven Van Ausdle, president of Walla Walla Community College and Joy Sakamoto Barker of Renton Technical College have been appointed to another term on the council. Lynn Busacca, executive director, Mason County Literacy; Virginia Cross, Indian education coordinator, Auburn School District; Elizabeth Stroup, executive director, Washington Literacy; and Gilberto Alaniz, director of special projects, Yakima Occupational Industrial Center are the new members.

Locke also appointed Jimmie Jordan, a coordinator at the Keiro Center in Seattle, to the Board of Nursing Home Administrators.
