Vancouver named as the next Capital for a Day

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced Vancouver will be the next Capital for a Day. Locke and his cabinet will take state government on the road to Vancouver Wednesday, May 20, 1998.

Locke said the event is a great opportunity to get out in the community and learn first-hand about the concerns of Washington residents. This also is an opportunity for residents to voice their concerns directly to top state government leaders.

"The process of governing must be a dialogue, not a monologue," said Locke. "In order to better serve the people of our state, we must all work together and listen to one another."

Locke and his cabinet members are scheduled to host and attend several events throughout the day. Some of the events the governor is scheduled to attend include a breakfast with elected officials from Clark County, a visit to a local school and a meeting with educators, a luncheon at the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce where he will deliver remarks, and a town hall meeting, which is open to the public.

Last year the governor held "Capital for a Day" events in Everett and Spokane.
