Locke names George Morton to head state Department of Printing

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced the appointment of George Morton of Olympia as director of the Washington Department of Printing.

"I'm excited to have George join our team," Locke said. "George has 22 years of experience in the printing industry and truly believes in customer service. I look forward to his leadership at the Department of Printing."

"My vision is to have the Department of Printing become the printer of choice for state government," Morton said. "Through progressive, innovative and cost-efficient customer-focused service, I'm confident we can meet all agencies' needs."

Morton, 51, has worked for the Department of Printing since 1976 when he joined the agency as an general worker in the main press operation. Over the years, he took on more responsibility and moved into management of the state's copy center operations.

While in the copy center, Morton streamlined operations, updated technology for improved efficiency and reduced expenses. He focused on improving customer service, delivery systems and operation methods.

The Department of Printing has 87 employees and has its headquarters in Tumwater. The department provides printing services to the state legislature, the executive branch agencies and the judicial branch of state government.

Morton begins his duties as director today, and his annual salary will be $69,000.
