Gov. Locke makes appointments to college boards and other state posts

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced his selections to two college boards, the Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment, the Western State Hospital Advisory Board and the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Board.

Clover Park Technical College Board of Trustees
Bonnie C. Boyle, of Lakewood, was appointed to the Clover Park Technical College Board of Trustees. Boyle is president and the chief executive officer of Harborstone Credit Union in Lakewood. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2001.

Wenatchee Valley College Board of Trustees
Locke appointed Wendell George, an Omak businessman, to another term on the Wenatchee Valley College Board of Trustees. His term expires Sept. 30, 2002.

Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment
Four new members were appointed to the Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment.

Joel Roalkvam, of Port Angeles, is a founding member of the Peninsula Dispute Resolution Center. The center helps mediate disputes through peaceful conflict resolution.

Patrick Farrell, of Gig Harbor, is a board member of the Northwest Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans and vice-chair of the Tacoma Task Force on Disabilities.

Carole Kanehe, of SeaTac, works as a volunteer at the Auburn Regional Medical Center's Clinical Nutrition Department and the American Cancer Society in Auburn.

Gregory Wright, of Wenatchee, is an accessibility specialist with LINK-ADA. Link is the public transportation system in Wenatchee. He serves as the agency representative on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) issues.

The Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment advises the governor and Legislature on disability issues. All terms expire Dec. 31, 2000.

Western State Hospital Advisory Board
Locke appointed five new members and appointed one member to another term on the Western State Hospital Advisory Board.

Dorothy Blake, of Lakewood, is a licensed practical nurse. She has worked at Western State Hospital for 32 years in numerous capacities.

Shirley Havenga, of Seattle, is the chief executive officer of Community Psychiatric Clinic and its affiliate Mental Health North. Both clinics are based in Seattle.

Suzanne Leichman, of Gig Harbor, is a clinical nurse specialist at Western State Hospital.

Patricia Lovett is a former ballet teacher. She is now retired and resides in Silverdale.

Ani Clipper Maxfield, of Tacoma, is a part-time biology instructor at Pierce College.

Dr. Dean Brooks, a retired physician from Everett, was appointed to an additional term on the board. Brooks is the former superintendent of Oregon State Hospital.

The board monitors the hospital's operations and activities, and makes recommendations to the governor and Legislature for improving its services. All terms expire Dec. 5, 2001 except for Lovett and Maxfield. Their terms expire Dec. 5, 2000.

Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Board
David D'Hondt, of Puyallup, and Allan Darr, of Bothell, were appointed to the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Board.

D'Hondt is a carpenter by trade. He is the safety director/risk manager at Absher Construction Company in Puyallup.

Darr has 26 years of experience as an operating engineer. He currently works for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302. He also serves as president of the Snohomish County Labor Council.

Both terms expire Dec. 31, 2000. The Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Board works to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases among state employees.
