Locke names Assistant Attorney General to Chelan-Douglas Superior Court

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke announced today he has appointed Assistant Attorney General Lesley Allan of Wenatchee to the Superior Court bench of Chelan and Douglas counties. Allan replaces Judge Carol Wardell, who resigned.

Locke said he was very impressed with Allan's quick mind and even temperment. "Lesley Allan will bring insight, dedication and a strong commitment to public service to the local court system," Locke said. "It was a pleasure to have several very strong candidates to consider for this position. I'm confident Ms. Allan will perform her new judicial responsibilities with the highest degree of professionalism and skill."

Allan has headed the state attorney general's Wenatchee office since 1989. She supervises the local staff of attorneys and support personnel. She previously served in the Seattle office of the attorney general from 1987-89, and in the Yakima office from 1984-87. As assistant attorney general, her responsibilities have included representing state agencies such as the departments of Labor and Industries, Social and Health Services, and Licensing, and Wenatchee Valley College.

Attorney General Christine Gregoire said, "Governor Locke has made an excellent choice in appointing Lesley Allan to serve on the Chelan-Douglas Superior Court bench. I am delighted for her and am confident she will serve the people of Chelan and Douglas counties with great distinction. In her tenure with the attorney general's office, Lesley has been an exemplary steward of the justice system, making it work for all the citizens of Chelan and Douglas counties. She will continue to be an effective leader for the judicial system in her new capacity," Gregoire added.

Allan has extensive courtroom experience in litigation, with jury trials and in appeals court proceedings. She holds a baccalaureate degree from the University of Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington Law School in 1983.

Allan is president-elect of the Chelan-Douglas County Bar Association. She is an active supporter of a number of community programs. Allan is president of the North Central Washington Quilt Guild and is involved in the local Humane Society, Red Cross and the Complete the Loop Coalition.

Allan will start Feb. 9 at an annual salary of $100,995. In November an election for the rest of the four-year term will be held.
