Locke announces selections for college boards and state posts

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced his appointments for boards of trustees at several community colleges throughout the state, as well as other state boards and commissions posts.

Locke's new appointments to the board of trustees are:

Kevin Grossman, a real estate broker from Shoreline, to the Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees. His term expires Sept. 30, 2001.

Larry Brown of Auburn to the Green River Community College Board of Trustees. Brown is an active member of the Aerospace Machinists union. Brown's term expires Sept. 30, 2001.

Elmer Ward, a legislative aide from Toppenish, to the Yakima Valley Community College Board of Trustees. Ward's term expires Sept. 30, 2002.

Dora Reyes, an equal employment manager from Walla Walla, to the Walla Walla Community College Board of Trustees. Reyes' term expires Sept. 30, 2002.

Locke also reappointed to another term:

Dr. Jay Won Kim of Tacoma to the Pierce College Board of Trustees;

Teri Treat of Ferndale to the Whatcom Community College Board of Trustees;

Arnold Wright of Spanaway to the Clover Park Technical College Board of Trustees.

Kathleen Quig of Aberdeen to the Grays Harbor College Board of Trustees.

All of these terms expire Sept. 30, 2002.

Locke also appointed four new members to the Small Business Improvement Council. They are:

Nathaniel Greene, a Spokane auto dealer;

Kathy Kehl, a Richland day care center owner;

Don Phillips, a Harrington businessman and wheat farmer; and

Taimi Dunn Gorman, a Bellingham restaurant owner

The council advises and helps to improve the entrepreneurial environment for small businesses. All terms expire July 19, 2001.

In other appointments:

Pat Boss of Moses Lake was appointed to the Commission on Pesticide Registration. Boss is the director of government relations for the Washington State Potato Commission. His term expires Sept. 14, 2000.

Dr. Julian Ansell of Seattle and Dr. Robert Newell of Bellingham were appointed to another term on the Medical Quality Assurance Commission. The commission regulates the competency and quality of medical professionals. Their terms expire June 30, 2001.

Anni Langsam, a nursing assistant from Kirkland, was appointed to the Massage Examining Board. The board reviews massage practitioner candidates for licensing and registration. Langsam's term expires Sept. 7, 1999.

Patrick McElligott, a firefighter from Tacoma, was reappointed to the Washington State Investment Board. His term expires Dec. 31, 2000.

Jayasri Guha, an information technology professional from Des Moines, was named to the Washington State Information Services Board.

Deborah J. Ross of Olympia was named to the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council. The council advises the governor on issues relating to energy facilities in the state.
