Locke, Munro urge aid for quake victims in Turkey

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke and Sec. of State Ralph Munro today urged residents of Washington to "open their hearts and their pocketbooks" to help the thousands of victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey.

"When we read about this kind of tragedy, or see the footage on television, it reminds us that there are places in the world where people live in daily fear of catastrophe," Locke and Munro said in a joint statement. "We urge Washingtonians to open their hearts and their pocketbooks and do what they can to help through relief organizations."

The news media list relief organizations that are helping the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey. Locke and Munro noted that people who want to learn if a relief organization is registered with the charities division in the Secretary of State's office should call a toll-free number: 1-800-332-4483.
