Locke accepts report on home care for adults

OLYMPIA--Gov. Gary Locke today accepted a report from Lyle Quasim, Secretary of Social and Health Services, that reviews home care for adults whose cases are monitored by DSHS. Locke requested the review in May following media reports about the case of Linda David, an Snohomish County woman who was removed from the care of her husband in 1997 and is now in a nursing home. David's husband was arrested in May, more than two years after his wife was removed from his care. He was charged with second-degree assault.

Locke instructed DSHS to review all of its policies on home care for adults who are under state supervision.

"Domestic abuse is one of the worst tragedies of our time," said Locke. "All of us must do everything we can to raise awareness about this problem and look for ways to address it. The recommendations in this report, along with those of my Domestic Violence Action Group, which will report to me at the end of October, will be carefully considered by me and my staff."
