Locke names Sue Crystal director of executive policy office

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke announced today the appointment of Sue Crystal as director of the Governor's Executive Policy office.

Crystal, who has been deputy policy director since 1997, succeeds Wallace Loh, who recently joined Seattle University as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"Sue Crystal brings outstanding credentials to the job of executive policy director," Locke said. "She has a broad range of interests in public policy and has been especially valuable to us on the issue of health care."

Crystal said, "This is an exciting opportunity to work for a governor who believes that policies can improve the lives of our citizens. He is committed to a process in which ideas get translated into actions that make a difference."

Crystal has a Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and a law degree from the University of Washington.

She is on the adjunct faculty at Evergreen State College, where she teaches graduate studies in Management in the Public Administration program.

Her background includes staff counsel for the United States Senate's Appropriations Committee and as an aide to Senator Warren Magnuson; director of Democratic Research Services for the Washington House of Representatives; and executive director of the Governor's Task Force for Higher Education and the Governor's Regulatory Reform Task Force. She has also been in private law practice.
