Find-It! Consumer searches more than 70 state and national websites for information about consumer safety and consumer protection.
"Consumers have come to expect - even demand - one-stop Internet services from business and government," Locke said in a message on the website. "And we're putting consumer information at citizens' fingertips with Find-It! Consumer."
On the web at http://finditconsumer.wa.gov, Find-It! Consumer offers one-stop Internet searching by keyword and topic, and includes information on water and air quality, pesticide use, food safety, pyramid schemes, junk mail, telephone marketers and the "lemon law." The new state website offers consumer alerts and tips from sites reviewed and recommended by consumer experts and librarians, and also includes direct links to agency websites with consumer protection information.
"Every day our lives are becoming more complex," said Zussy. "Find-It! Consumer makes it easier to get reliable consumer information and make better decisions about our lives."
Five public libraries participated in today's ribbon-cutting ceremonies, including the Ft. Vancouver Regional Library in Vancouver, the Sno-Isle Regional Library in Marysville, the Ellensburg Public Library, the King County Law Library in Seattle and the Washington State Library in Olympia.
The website initially was funded by a $100,000 grant from the federal Institute for Museum and Library Services. Sponsor agencies now include the Office of the Governor, the Washington State Library, the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Ecology, the Liquor Control Board, the Department of Social and Health Services, the Utilities and Transportation Commission and the North Central Education Service District.

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today joined State Librarian Nancy Zussy in a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch a consumer information website.Find-It! Consumer searches more than 70 state and national websites for information about consumer safety and consumer protection.
