Tri-Cities named as next 'Capital for a Day'

OLYMPIA — The state capital will move from Olympia as Gov. Gary Locke today announced the Tri-Cities as "Capital for a Day" on Wednesday, July 21. Locke and his executive cabinet directors will host a series of events as they take state government on the road to the Tri-Cities.

"Past 'Capital for a Day' events have been great opportunities for the people who run state government to listen first-hand to the concerns of local residents," said Locke. "I'm looking forward to learning more about the challenges unique to the Tri-Cities."

Locke is scheduled to speak at the Mid-Columbia Chambers of Commerce luncheon and to respond to questions from citizens at an evening dinner and town hall meeting. The open town hall meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Howard Amon City Park, 80 Lee Blvd., Richland. Complete details of the governor's schedule will be announced next month.

Other cities that have served as "Capital for a Day" over the past two years include Everett, Spokane, Vancouver, Yakima and Bellingham.
