Locke makes selections for state boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several boards and commissions.

Board of Spokane Intercollegiate Research & Technology Institute

The board develops and approves the institute's general operating procedures and budget.

Stuart Stiles, of Colbert, is the general manager of a national broadband communications provider. His term expires June 30, 2001.

Board of Boiler Rules

The board formulates rules and regulations for the safe and proper construction, installation, use, operation, and repair of boilers and pressure vessels.

Steven Bacon, of Ferndale, is an inspection supervisor at a local refining company. His term expires Aug. 22, 2001.

Real Estate Commission

The commission examines and licenses real estate brokers and salespeople, and holds educational conferences.

Alan Barnard, of Port Angeles, is a real estate manager. His term expires Aug. 14, 2006.

Rehabilitation Advisory Council

The council reviews, analyzes and advises the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) on the general vocational rehabilitation program.

Gerri Coleman, of Walla Walla, is a business owner and personnel service manager. Her term expires Sept. 22, 2003.

Appointed to an additional term on the council is Mike Hatch. His term expires Sept. 22, 2003.

State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants & Toddlers with Disabilities & Their Families

The council advises and assists participating state agencies to coordinate, develop and implement policies dealing with early-intervention services.

Linda Rolfe, of Olympia, is the acting director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities for the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Her term is at the pleasure of the governor.

Cmdr. J. Wade White, of Bremerton, is a staff pediatrician at the Bremerton Naval Hospital. His term is at the pleasure of the governor.

Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission

The commission advises the governor and state agencies on issues pertaining to the rights and needs of Asian Americans.

Appointed to an additional term on the commission is Diane Narasaki. Her term expires June 30, 2003.

Economic Development Finance Authority

Assists small and medium sized businesses in meeting their capital needs.

Matthew Schaffer, of Spokane, is a specialist in the implementation of global corporate expansion. His term expires Aug. 8, 2001.

Appointed to additional terms are Andrew T. Fagan and Gerald L. Miller. Both terms expire Oct. 19, 2004.

Governor's Substance Abuse Prevention Advisory Committee

The committee coordinates a state incentive grant to revitalize alcohol, tobacco, and drug-prevention efforts in the state.

Rick Phillips, of Olympia, is Chief of Enforcement and Education for the Liquor Control Board. Ronald Murphy, of Tacoma, is certified social worker and director of a family services program. Tristina Ropp, of Spokane, is a student. All terms expire Dec. 31, 2001.

Sentencing Guidelines Commission

The commission evaluates state sentencing policy for the adult criminal and juvenile justice system.

Edward Delmore, of Manchester, is the director of services a the Kitsap County Juvenile Department. His term expires Aug. 2, 2001.
