Manuel Romero to leave Commission on Hispanic Affairs

OLYMPIA – Gov. Gary Locke will conduct a search to find a replacement for Manuel Romero, the executive director of the Governor's Commission on Hispanic Affairs. Romero will leave in June to work for the state Liquor Control Board as its Alcohol Awareness Program manager.

The Hispanic Commission advises the governor and state agencies on policies, plans and programs relating to the special needs of the Hispanic community. The commission also works to improve diversity within state government, and to improve the well-being of Hispanics by improving access to government, business and education.

"Manuel has done a great job and worked tirelessly on building a strong relationship between state government and the Hispanic community," Locke said.

Leana Lamb will serve as the acting director of the commission. Lamb currently works at the Department of Social and Health Services as the superintendent of the Rainier School.

The Governor's Office will conduct a search for a new executive director. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume, and a list of five or more personal/professional references by June 22, 1999 to: Office of the Governor, P.O. Box 40002, Olympia, WA 98504-0002 (attn: Kelly Wicker).
