Locke appoints trustees to college boards

Gov. Gary Locke today announced his selections for the boards of trustees of the University of Washington, Washington State University, The Evergreen State College, Western Washington University and Central Washington University.

College Board of Trustees
The board of trustees is the governing body of the college.

William H. Gates, of Seattle, was re-appointed to the University of Washington, Board of Regents. Gates is an attorney.

Shelly Yapp, of Seattle, was re-appointed to the University of Washington, Board of Regents. Yapp is the director of redevelopment for the Seattle Center. She is also the former executive director of the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority.

Joe King, of Ellensburg, was re-appointed to the Washington State University, Board of Regents. King is a lobbyist and the former speaker of the Washington State House of Representatives.

Deborah Barnett, of Olympia, was re-appointed to The Evergreen State College, Board of Trustees. Barnett is a program manager within Microsoft's TransPoint group.

F. Murray "Red" Haskell, of Bellingham, was appointed to the Western Washington University, Board of Trustees. Haskell is the chief executive officer and chairman of the board of an electrical and general contracting company.

Grace Yuan, of Seattle, was re-appointed to the Western Washington University, Board of Trustees. Yuan is an attorney focusing on municipal, land use and education law. She represents a variety of special districts and municipal clients on growth management and land use issues.

Jay Reich, of Seattle, was re-appointed to the Central Washington University, Board of Trustees. Reich is an attorney focusing on municipal finance law. He is also the general counsel and bond counsel to the Washington State Housing Finance Commission.

Mike Sells, of Everett, was re-appointed to the Central Washington University, Board of Trustees. Sells is the secretary-treasurer of the Snohomish County Labor Council.

All terms begin Oct. 1, 2000 and expire Sept. 30, 2006.
