Locke appoints Heavey to bench early due to heavy caseload

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke has appointed Michael J. Heavey as a King County Superior Court judge as of Sept. 16.

He will replace Judge R. Joseph Wesley, who is retiring on Sept. 15.

Heavey is running for Wesley's position without opposition in the fall election.

"I appreciate your willingness to serve in this capacity before your uncontested election becomes final," Locke said. "Your enthusiasm will greatly assist the court in managing its caseload."

The governor added, "I am confident your talents, experience and background will make you an outstanding judge."
