Locke names Sen. Eugene Prince to head Liquor Control Board

OLYMPIA – Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Sen. Eugene Prince of Thornton as chair of the State Liquor Control Board.

Prince, a Republican from the 9th District, will resign his Senate seat to take his new position.

He will replace Nate Ford, who will move from the Liquor Control Board to an appointment by Locke to the State Personnel Appeals Board.

"Gene Prince has been an outstanding legislator, and we are fortunate to have someone with his experience and judgment to chair the Liquor Control Board," Locke said. "Nate Ford will take his experience on to new challenges."

Prince said, "I have been on the legislative side of state government for four decades, from a legislative staff to a member of the House and Senate. I look forward to now providing my service in the executive branch and working with Gov. Locke."

Prince was first elected to the state House in 1980 and served six terms. He was elected to the state Senate in 1992 and was re-elected in 1996. Two years remain in his term.

The State Liquor Control Board oversees the granting of liquor licenses and other regulation of the sale of alcohol.

The Personnel Appeals Board handles employment action appeals by state employees.

Prince and Ford will assume their new roles in January 1999.

The chair position for the Liquor Control Board pays $72,351. The position on the Personnel Appeals Board pays $68,807.
