Locke appoints citizens to state boards and commissions

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke today announced his selections for a college board of trustees, the Executive Ethics Board, and several other boards and commissions.

College Board of Trustees

The board of trustees is the governing body of the college.

San Juana Gonzalez, of Sunnyside, was appointed to the Yakima Valley Community College, Board of Trustees. Gonzalez is an assistant vice president at Bank of America's Sunnyside Banking Center. She is also a member of the Rotary Club and the Soroptimists. Her term expires Aug. 30, 2004.

Executive Ethics Board

The board enforces state ethics laws for state-wide elected officials and all other officers and employees in the executive branch, boards and commissions and institutions of higher education.

Laquita Fields, of Des Moines, is the curriculum advisor at Highline Community College. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2002.

James M. Vache, of Everett, is a professor at the Gonzaga University School of Law. His term expires Sept. 30, 2004.

Examining Board of Psychology

The board examines candidates for licensure and denies, revokes, suspends or restricts licenses for specified conduct.

John Ramirez, of Pullman, is a private practice counseling psychologist providing individual, couple and group therapy.

Elizabeth Anne Robinson, of Everett, is a private practice psychologist.

Both terms expire Jan. 6, 2005.

Building Code Council

The council develops, adopts and maintains the State Building Code.

Hon. Tim Clark, of Kent, is a City of Kent councilmember.

Hon. Ronald McCoy, of Chewelah, is mayor of the City of Chewelah.

Both terms expire Jan. 5, 2001.

Capitol Campus Design Advisory Committee

The committee advises the State Capitol Committee and the Washington State Department of General Administration on design and landscaping plans of state capitol facilities and grounds.

Mary McCumber, of Seattle, is the executive director of the Puget Sound Regional Council. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2002.

Barbara Swift, of Seattle, is the owner of a landscape architecture firm. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2003.

Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team

The team works with federal, tribal, state and local governments and with individuals and organizations to implement the Puget Sound Water Quality Management Plan for cleaning up and protecting Puget Sound.

Hon. Chuck Booth, of Auburn, is mayor of the City of Auburn. His term is determined by the governor.

Puget Sound Council

The council recommends projects and activities to the Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team and recommends amendments to the Puget Sound Water Quality Management Plan.

Hon. Jackie Aitchison, of Poulsbo, is a City of Poulsbo councilmember. Her term expires July 1, 2003.

Employee Retirement Benefits Board

The board selects and approves self-directed investment options and related administrative charges, benefit payment schedules, annuities, and the investment option for the deferred compensation program.

Alison Olzendam, of Spokane, is the principal of Mead Middle School. Her term expires June 30, 2001.

Freight Mobility and Strategic Investment Board

The board designates strategic freight corridors within the state and reviews and evaluates freight mobility funding applications.

Hon. Chuck Booth, of Auburn, is mayor of the City of Auburn. His term expires June 30, 2002.
Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund Committee

The committee advises the governor and the legislature on acceptance of state or federal loans for infrastructure or economic development projects in the Hanford area.

Max Benitz, Jr., of Prosser, is a Benton County Commissioner and is the president of the Benton County Cattleman's Association. His term expires June 28, 2001.

Commute Trip Reduction Task Force

The task force implements Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies for reducing the number of vehicles on roads and highways, particularly single-occupant vehicles.

Hon. Cherie Rodgers, of Spokane, is a City of Spokane councilmember. Her term is determined by the governor.

Cemetery Board

The board regulates private cemeteries.

Appointed to an additional term on the board is Lula Horton, of Ellensburg, cemetery manager. Her term expires Jan. 15, 2004.
