Locke makes selections for state boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several boards and commissions.

Forest Practices Board
The board establishes standards for forest practices.

David J. Somers, of Monroe, currently serves on the Snohomish County Council. His term expires Dec. 31, 2002.

Appointed to an additional term are L.T. "Toby" Murray III, of Tacoma, and Fran Abel, of Langley. Both terms expire Dec. 31, 2004.

Traffic Safety Commission
The commission addresses the problems of traffic safety and accident prevention.

The Honorable Kirke P. Sievers, of Everett, currently serves on the Snohomish County Council. His term of service is at the pleasure of the governor.

Economic Development Finance Authority
The board assists small and medium sized businesses in meeting their capital needs.

Linda J. Williams, of Olympia, is a telecommunications consultant. Her term expires Oct. 19, 2004.

Health and Welfare Advisory Board
The board assists in the governing and management of health and welfare programs.

Sheryl M. Smith, of Yakima, is currently a deputy human resource manager for the City of Yakima, and Richard Rodruck, of Seattle, is the current administrator for the Public Utility Risk Management Service Self-Insurance Fund. Both terms expire Dec. 31, 2003.

Appointed to an additional term on the commission are Ricky Walsh, of Benton City, Ruth Russell, of Port Orchard, and Kerry Schaefer, of Tacoma. All terms expire Dec. 31, 2003.

Property and Liability Advisory Board
The board assists the state in governing the operation of insurance programs covering liability and property risk.

Appointed to an additional term on the board are David Hayasaka, of Burien, and David Canfield, of Ephrata. Both terms expires Dec.31, 2003.

Board of Pilotage Commisioners
The Commission examines and licenses qualified pilots for vessels operating on the inland waterways of the state.

Appointed to an additional term on the board are Captain Robert N. Kromann, of Edmonds, Larry Simoneaux, of Edmonds, and Vince Addington, of Seattle. All terms expire Dec. 26, 2004.

Commute Trip Reduction Task Force
The Commission establishes guidelines for commute trip reduction plans.

Anthony Underwood, of Seattle, is a manager at Boeing. His term of service is at the pleasure of the governor.

Lewis and Clark Trail Commision
The committee advises on activities of federal, state and local agencies, and individuals to promote public awareness of the route traversed by Lewis and Clark.

Walter J. Gary, of Walla Walla, is a professor at Washington State University. His term of service is at the pleasure of the governor.
