Locke names Jennifer Joly as legislative director

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Jennifer A. Joly as his legislative director.

"Jennifer Joly is a very experienced attorney who knows the issues, the law, the legislative process and the members of our state Legislature. She will be a valuable asset to my executive team," Locke said.

The legislative director promotes the governor's agenda during the legislative session and advises him on legislative issues.

Joly, of Olympia, currently serves as the legal counsel to the Washington House of Representatives, providing legal and policy advice to House members and staff.

She also served as Locke's transportation policy advisor from November 1997 through July 1999.

"I am excited to return to Governor Locke's staff and continue my work with the Legislature," Joly said. "We face big challenges in transportation and energy, and we must fulfill the voters' call to enhance education. I am confident that collectively the governor and the Legislature can and will accomplish these important tasks."

Joly, 32, received a law degree from the Seattle University School of Law in Tacoma in 1993. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Washington in 1990.

Joly rejoins the governor's staff on Monday (Jan. 8) at an annual salary of $89,000.
