Gov. Gary Locke and Gen. Timothy Lowenberg Provide Update on Osama Bin Laden Videotape

OLYMPIA – Oct. 30, 2004 – Gov. Gary Locke and Adjutant Gen. Timothy Lowenberg, Washington State National Guard, issued the following statement on the recent release of a videotape of Osama bin Laden:

“General Lowenberg is in Washington, D.C., and conferred this morning with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge and General Pat Hughes, director of Intelligence for Homeland Security,” Locke said. “While officials continue to analyze the video, Secretary Ridge and General Hughes report that there is no new credible threat.”

“This tape appears to be a war of words. However, there is no indication of specific risk or credible threat of any kind. As always, citizens should continue to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious packages, vehicles or activities,” Lowenberg said. “We will keep local officials and the people of Washington apprised of any changes or updates in information.”

The national threat level remains at yellow, which means it is elevated.
