Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions
Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to state boards and commissions:
Agency Council on Coordinated Transportation
Marilyn Mason-Plunkett of Yakima, Michael Harbour of Olympia and G. Reg Clarke of Bellingham have been reappointed to terms ending June 30, 2006. The Agency Council on Coordinated Transportation develops standards and strategies coordinating special needs transportation.
Emergency Medical Services/Trauma Care Steering Committee
Dr. Justin Robinson of Yakima and Brad Morris of Walla Walla have been reappointed to terms ending Aug. 15, 2007. The Emergency Medical Services/Trauma Care Steering Committee reviews the requirements for pre-hospital emergency and ambulance services throughout the state and the proposed administrative rules relating to emergency medical services; reviews regional emergency management plans and recommends changes; and advises on rules regarding poison information centers.
Governor’s Council on Substance Abuse
David Cooper of Sedro-Woolley and Jason Moulton of Sammamish have been reappointed to terms ending Aug. 3, 2004. The Governor’s Council on Substance Abuse advises the governor on issues and programs relating to substance abuse; assists with implementing strategies to support community efforts to reduce substance abuse; and promotes public awareness and education.
Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee
Ramon Ruiz of Walla Walla has been reappointed to a term ending June 30, 2007. The Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee implements the federal juvenile justice and delinquency prevention act which provides funds to states to improve the juvenile justice system and advises the governor on priorities for granting federal juvenile delinquency funds and improving the juvenile system.
Massage Examining Board
Karin Olsen of Shelton has been reappointed to a term ending Sept. 7, 2008. The Massage Examining Board examines candidates for licensure and registration; recommends and adopts rules and regulations for administering the regulatory law; defines, evaluates, approves, and designates those schools, programs, and apprenticeship programs including all current and proposed curriculum, faculty, and health, sanitation, and facility standards from which graduation will be accepted as proof of an applicant’s eligibility to take the licensing examination.
Productivity Board
Brian Sonntag of Tacoma has been reappointed to a term ending Oct. 31, 2006. The Productivity Board administers the employee suggestions program and reviews applications for incentive pay for state employees.
Professional Educator Standards Board
Carol Coar of Gig Harbor has been reappointed to a term ending May 31, 2008. The Professional Educator Standards Board advises state policymakers on issues related to the preparation, certification and ongoing professional development of educators in Washington state and administers the basic skills and subject knowledge tests required for teacher certification and the state's alternative routes to teaching program.
The Evergreen State College Board of Trustees
David Lamb of Hoquiam has been reappointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2008. The Evergreen State College Board of Trustees serves as the governing body for the college.
Transportation Commission
Richard Ford of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2007. Ford is senior counsel for Preston Gates Ellis. The Transportation Commission establishes policy for the Department of Transportation.
Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee
Richard Whipple of Federal Way and Richard Marin of Edmonds have been reappointed to terms ending July 1, 2008. The Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee advises the governor and director of the Department of Veterans Affairs on state programs related to veterans, their dependents and survivors.
Washington State Board of Health
Dr. Thomas Locke of Port Angeles has been appointed to serve as chair of the Washington State Board of Health for a term ending July 2, 2005. The Washington State Board of Health is the primary entity for state health policy development and is required to produce a biennial report delineating the state’s health priorities.
