Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to the state boards and commissions:

Affordable Housing Advisory Board

Joan Hernandez of Tukwila has been appointed to a term ending Jan. 26, 2008. Hernandez is a member of the Tukwila City Council and is retired from the King County Housing Authority. The Affordable Housing Advisory Board serves as principal advisory body to the Department of Community Trade and Economic Development on housing and housing-related issues.

Biodiversity Council

The Biodiversity Council recommends ways to manage and protect our state's biodiversity. The council was established in Executive Order 04-02 on March 1, 2004. The following members were appointed to terms ending Dec. 31, 2007: Brad Ack of Olympia; Robert Fimbel of Olympia; Megan White of Olympia; Bonnie Bunning of Olympia; Dick Wallace of Lacey; Jeff Koenings of Olympia; Wade Troutman of Bridgeport; Kate Stenberg of Sammamish; Naki Stevens of Fircrest; Bill Brookreson of Fircrest; Maggi Coon of Seattle; John Marzluff of Snohomish; Peter Goldmark of Okanogan; Ken Risenhoover of Olympia; Melvin Moon of Forks; Donna Darm of Seattle; Ken Berg of Olympia; Jaclyn Reid of Olympia and Steve Tharinger of Sequim.

Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers

Michael Galaviz of DuPont has been appointed to a term ending July 1, 2009. Galaviz is vice-president for BW Memorial Corporation and manages three independent subsidiaries, Bonny-Watson Company; Wiggen and Sons Funeral Home, Inc.; and Affordable Cremation Services, Inc. The Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers examines and licenses members of the profession; recommends rules and regulations for administering and enforcing the regulatory law.


Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission

Nancy McCown of Kelso has been reappointed to a term ending June 30, 2008.

James Snyder of Spokane and Lew Estabrook of Kirkland have been appointed to terms ending June 30, 2008. Snyder is owner of Audubon Park Chiropractic. Estabrook is owner of Northwest Chiropractic Center. The Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission regulates the competency and quality of chiropractic health care professionals by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing qualification for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline.

Columbia Basin College Board of Trustees

Dr. Enriqueta Mayuga of Pasco has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2008. Dr. Mayuga has a private practice in Obstetrics/Gynecology. The Columbia Basin College Board of Trustees serves as the college’s governing board.

Criminal Justice Training Commission

Eldon Vail of Olympia has been reappointed to a term ending June 30, 2008. The Criminal Justice Training Commission develops and implements training standards and programs designed to upgrade criminal justice personnel and establishes standards relating to physical, mental and moral fitness for recruiting criminal justice personnel.

Dental Quality Assurance Commission

Dr. Russell B. Timms of Longview has been reappointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2008.

Dr. Fred Quarnstrom of Seattle and Dr. Padmaraj “Raj” Angolkar of Bellevue have been appointed to terms ending Sept. 30, 2008. Quarnstrom has a private dental practice and is sole owner of Second Dental Opinion.com. Angolkar is in private practice for orthodontics. The Dental Quality Assurance Commission regulates the competency and quality of dental professionals by establishing, monitoring and enforcing qualifications for licensure, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline.

Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board

Don Lemmons of Kelso, Richard Marzano of University Place, and Andrew Johnsen of Olympia have been reappointed to terms ending June 30, 2008. The Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board designates strategic freight corridors within the state, reviews and evaluates freight mobility funding applications and makes recommendations to the governor and Legislature on projects that will enhance freight mobility.


Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees

Gidget Terpstra of Shoreline has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2008. Terpstra is a readiness to learn family advocate with the Shoreline School District. The Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees serves as the college’s governing board.

South Puget Sound Community College Board of Trustees

Barbara Clarkson of Lacey has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2008. Clarkson is retired with over 25 years of managing adult education and training programs. The South Puget Sound Community College Board of Trustees serves as the college’s governing board.

Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council

Susan Wilder Crane of Seattle has been reappointed to a term ending Feb. 21, 2007. The Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council approves apprenticeship programs, and establishes apprenticeship program standards as rules, including requirements for apprentice-related and supplemental instruction, coordination of instruction with job experiences, and instructor qualifications.
