Gov. Locke statement on energy agreement

"I applaud the efforts of the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, Puget Sound Energy and the 12 participating Northwest companies for producing this very fair agreement.

"This is a very significant achievement for 12 major industrial customers which were paying very high prices for electricity.

"As a result of this agreement, those customers will have the opportunity to seek the best price from several energy suppliers or even produce their own power.

"The agreement also should help relieve some of the pressure on our electricity system because it helps add power supplies where they are needed. It is a good arrangement for the 12 large customers but also helps to protect more than 900,000 Puget Sound Energy customers from rate increases."
