Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to state boards and commissions:

Board of Nursing Home Administrators

Daniel E. Murray of Olympia has been appointed to a term ending May 28, 2009. Murray is an administrator with Puget Sound Healthcare Center. The Board of Nursing Home Administrators administers licensure or registration process for nursing home administrators.

Board of Occupational Therapy Practice

John Borah of Port Angeles has been appointed to a term ending Dec. 31, 2005. Borah is chairman of the Clallam County Planning Commission. The Board of Occupational Therapy Practice administers, coordinates and enforces the statutes relating to occupational therapists.

Commission on Pesticide Registration

Ann George of Moxee and Bryan Sakuma of Burlington have been reappointed to terms ending Sept. 14, 2006. The Commission on Pesticide Registration provides guidance to Washington State University Food Safety and Environmental Quality Lab in the area of pesticide registrations for minor crops and minor uses and in regard to the availability of pesticides for emergency use. The commission also approves use of state monies appropriated to Washington State University specifically for studies or activities regarding pesticide registrations.

Higher Education Facilities Authority

Karen Brown of Vancouver has been appointed to a term ending May 26, 2007. Brown is the multicultural student affairs/retention manager for Clark College. The Higher Education Facilities Authority authorizes the issuance of tax-exempt bonds and loans proceeds to private, nonprofit institutions of higher education.

Lake Washington Technical College Board of Trustees

Jane Stein of Carnation has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2007. Stein is a registered nurse in the Specialty Float Pool for Swedish Hospital Medical Center. The Lake Washington Technical College Board of Trustees serves as the college’s governing board.

Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Plan 2 Pension Board (LEOFF 2)

Douglas Pendergrass of Arlington has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2005. Pendergrass is master patrol deputy for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. The Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Plan 2 Pension Board provides for an actuarial reserve for the payment of death, disability, and retirement benefits to law enforcement officers and fire fighters, and to beneficiaries of such employees.

Legislative Ethics Board

Wayne Ehlers of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2006. Ehlers is a former state representative and Speaker of the House. The Legislative Ethics Board enforces state ethics legislation with respect to members of the Legislature and legislative employees.

Professional Educator Standards Board

Ron Scutt of Stehekin and Dr. Dennis Sterner of Spokane have been reappointed to terms ending May 31, 2007.

Dora Noble of Pasco has been appointed to a term ending May 31, 2008. Noble is a reading recovery and literacy coach for the Pasco School District. The Professional Educator Standards Board develops a basic skills test for persons entering teacher preparation programs and out of state teachers seeking initial or residency certification.

State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and Their Families

Molly Chavez of Othello has been reappointed to a term ending Jan. 6, 2007. The State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and Their Families advises and assists the Department of Social and Health Services and participating state agencies to coordinate, develop and implement policies dealing with early-intervention services.

Washington State Health Insurance Pool

Dr. G. Robert Appel of Shelton and Dr. Robert D. Jaffe of Seattle have been appointed to terms ending May 31, 2007. Dr. Appel is chief executive officer of Mason General Hospital. Dr. Jaffe is a retired family physician. The Washington State Health Insurance Pool provides access to health insurance for people who are unable to obtain coverage in the private marketplace. The board of directors develops and approves a uniform screening mechanism for subscribers to enter the pool. The board also manages the pool, sets assessments on member health plans, and collects premiums from subscribers.

Washington Technology Center Board of Directors

Kim Pearman-Gillman of Spokane has been appointed to a term ending June 11, 2006. Pearman-Gillman is senior vice president for Avista Development, Inc.

Roger Gulrajani of Medina has been appointed to a term ending June 11, 2007. Gulrajani is the product unit manager for DirectBand Product Group.

Katherine Tuttle of Spokane and Heidi Schumann of Seattle have been reappointed to terms ending June 11, 2007. The Washington Technology Center Board of Directors provides a collaborative effort between the state’s universities, private industry and government in performing and commercializing research on a statewide basis to benefit the economic vitality of the state.

Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee

David Riggs of Retsil has been appointed to a term ending July 1, 2006. Riggs is the chairman of the Retsil Resident Council. The Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee advises the governor and the director of the Department of Veterans Affairs on state programs related to veterans, their dependents and survivors.
