Gov. Gary Locke Appoints Linda Lee to Pierce County Superior Court

Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Tacoma attorney Linda Lee to the Pierce County Superior Court.

“I am pleased to add Linda to a branch of government that is so vital to our democratic system,” Locke said. “She has the legal skills, the demeanor and the experience to be a top-notch Superior Court judge.”

Lee began her legal career representing policyholders in both the public and private sector seeking insurance coverage for liabilities and losses. She later began representing individuals and corporations in complex litigation involving commercial, environmental, personal injury, property and employment issues. Three years ago, she began practicing health care law.

Lee has served as president of the state Asian Bar Association and has been a member of the Washington State Bar Association’s Committee on Diversity. She is involved in the community, serving on the boards of the Pierce County Center for Dispute Resolution, the World Trade Center Tacoma and the Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation. Lee is also a member of the American Leadership Forum, a national organization dedicated to developing strong leaders to benefit the community.

“I am honored by the governor's appointment,” Lee said. “I look forward to serving the citizens of Pierce County and continuing the tradition of judicial excellence established by my predecessor and all of the judges on the Pierce County bench.”

Lee grew up in Hawaii. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She also received her law degree from Hawaii-Manoa in 1991. She was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1992.

Lee will replace Judge Marywave Van Deren, who Locke recently appointed to the Court of Appeals, Division II.

“I was pleased to appoint Judge Van Deren to the Court of Appeals,” Locke said. “We will miss her expertise and experience on the Pierce County Superior Court bench, but I know she will be just as successful there as she was in Superior Court.”
